Privacy Policy

Kapio is designed to make your everyday world feel closer to the language you are learning. This policy explains how Kapio handles app, website, saved memory, purchase, and support data.

Data Kapio Handles

Kapio may handle the following kinds of data, depending on how you use the app:

Account data, including an anonymous app account identifier and, if you choose to link an account, Sign in with Apple account information made available to Kapio.
Learning preferences, including the language you think in, the language you are learning, locale choices, and comfort level.
Camera moments used to create live subtitles. Kapio may send an image frame or reduced image derivative to generate a sentence for the scene in front of you.
Saved memories, including the target sentence, support-language meaning, target and support locales, comfort level, timestamp, resized image snapshot, source generation reference, and optional learning enrichments.
Purchase and entitlement information, including App Store subscription status. Kapio does not receive your payment card details.
Support messages you choose to send, including your message and related account context needed to respond.
Diagnostics and product analytics used to keep the app reliable. Kapio is designed not to send image, subtitle, or memory content to analytics or crash reporting tools by default.
Website request information processed by hosting and security services, such as basic request logs needed to serve and secure the site.

Kapio is not designed to collect precise location, contacts, microphone recordings, videos, public profiles, or social graph data. The app does not need microphone permission for its core experience.

How Data Is Used

Kapio uses data to:

Create live subtitles for real-world scenes.
Show meanings, audio, saved memories, key words, and romanization where supported.
Sync private saved memories when you reinstall or use account recovery.
Manage free allowance, Kapio Plus access, subscription status, grants, and account recovery.
Respond to support requests and account deletion requests.
Improve reliability, diagnose crashes, and understand app health without turning private content into analytics data.
Protect the service from abuse, fraud, or technical misuse.
Comply with legal, App Store, and security obligations.

Retention

Saved memories stay in your account until you delete them or request account deletion, subject to backup, security, and legal retention needs. Unsaved camera moments are intended to pass through Kapio quietly after the subtitle request is served, unless you opt in to a Help Improve setting that allows limited unsaved quality review retention.

Support messages are kept as long as needed to respond and maintain a support record. Purchase and entitlement records are kept as needed to provide paid access, support restore purchases, prevent abuse, and satisfy accounting or legal needs.

Your Choices

You can choose whether to save a moment. Unsaved moments are not meant to become part of your memory journal.
You can delete saved memories in the app.
You can request account deletion from the app or by contacting Kapio.
You can manage or cancel App Store subscriptions through Apple. Deleting a Kapio account does not cancel an App Store subscription for you.
You can disable optional Help Improve settings when available.

Children

Kapio is built for adult, self-directed language learners. It is not directed to children under 13, and Kapio does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes

Kapio may update this policy as the app, providers, laws, or privacy practices change. When the policy changes, the updated date on this page will change.
